What are Initial Lumens

Initial lumens are the total amount of light emitted by a lighting device immediately after it has stabilized, but before any depreciation in operational efficiency occurs. This measurement is typically taken after the first 100 hours of the lamp’s operation. During this initial period, the light-generating chemicals within the lamp may not have fully settled, resulting in fluctuations in the color of the emitted light, commonly known as flaring.

The initial lumens value provided by the manufacturer may not accurately represent the actual light output during this initial period. In fact, lamps often produce approximately 20 percent more light than the stated initial lumens value. This discrepancy is due to the lack of stability in the light-generating chemicals during the early stages of operation.
