What is Directional Lighting
Directional lighting is the intentional placement and direction of light in relation to the subject being illuminated, which involves focusing or directing the light in a specific direction to achieve desired lighting effects. This technique is commonly used in photography, film, and other applications where precise control of lighting is essential.
There are several types of directional lighting techniques that can be employed. Front lighting involves positioning the light source in front of the subject, illuminating it directly. This technique provides even lighting and reduces the appearance of shadows. Side lighting, on the other hand, involves placing the light source to the side of the subject. This creates more pronounced shadows and highlights, adding depth and dimension to the image. Back lighting occurs when the light source is positioned behind the subject, facing the camera. It creates a halo effect around the subject and can be used to separate the subject from the background.
