What is Bi-Pin Base

A bi-pin base refers to a specific type of base used in lamps or bulbs. Unlike the traditional screw-in base, a bi-pin base is characterized by having two pins that are designed to fit into corresponding slots or connectors in the fixture, establishing electrical contact. The distance between the two pins can vary depending on the specific base, and it is typically indicated in the name of the bulb. For example, a G4 lamp has 4 millimeters between the two pins.

Bi-pin bases are commonly used in various types of bulbs, including incandescent, halogen, and LED bulbs. In the past, bi-pin lamps were primarily incandescent or halogen bulbs, but now LED bi-pins are also available as replacements for these traditional bulbs. LED bi-pins offer advantages such as energy efficiency, longer lifespan, and potential cost savings over time.

When replacing a bi-pin bulb, consider the base size, pin style, and voltage compatibility to ensure proper fit and functionality. Additionally, small bi-pin lamps can have straight or looped pins, and the specific configuration of the pins may be relevant when selecting a bulb for a particular fixture.
