IALD stands for the International Association of Lighting Designers. Founded in 1969 and headquartered in Chicago, IL, USA, the IALD is a globally recognized organization that supports and promotes the professional development of lighting designers. It is dedicated to establishing and maintaining the highest standards of lighting design excellence worldwide.

The IALD serves as a network for over 1,500 independent lighting design professionals who have successfully completed the organization’s rigorous qualification process. Through various initiatives, the IALD aims to advance and recognize the work of professional lighting designers. It provides a platform for networking, knowledge sharing, and professional growth within the lighting industry.
Collaboration is a key aspect of the IALD’s work. The organization partners with other relevant institutions and organizations, such as the CIE (International Commission on Illumination), to further its mission. This collaboration is outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations.
