스포트라이트(Spotlight)란 무엇인가요?

A spotlight is a lighting device used to produce intense illumination in a specific and well-defined area. Originally used in theater productions to highlight main actors, spotlights have evolved to become a crucial tool in various applications such as stage performances, film and television production, ballet, opera, and landscape lighting.

Spotlights are designed to focus a concentrated beam of light onto a particular subject or area on a stage or set. They resemble small searchlights but are equipped with additional features to control and shape the projected light. These features include shutters, an iris diaphragm, and adjustable lenses. The shutters allow for precise control over the shape and size of the illuminated area, while the iris diaphragm helps regulate the intensity of the light. Adjustable lenses are used to modify the focus and spread of the light beam.

Spotlights are also capable of producing colored light by using colored gelatin filters, commonly known as gels. These filters can be inserted or rotated into the beam of light to create various colors and effects. It’s important to note that although the term “gels” is used, these filters are typically made of acetate rather than gelatin.

Spotlights are often operated by lighting technicians or operators who control their movement and adjust their settings during performances. Follow spotlights, in particular, are designed for easy maneuverability and can be directed to follow performers as they move across the stage. They are mounted on movable mounts and can project spots of light that can be readily changed to cover a large area or focus on a specific subject, such as a human face.
