What is Group Relamp

Group relamp is a maintenance strategy employed in the lighting industry where all lamps within a specific group or area are replaced simultaneously, rather than individually as they fail. This approach offers significant advantages in terms of time and labor savings compared to spot replacing failed lamps. The decision to implement group relamping is typically based on projected lamp life and lumen depreciation, with the aim of maintaining a lighting system’s maximum efficiency by replacing all lamps at their economic life.

Group relamping proves to be a cost-effective solution for maintaining lighting systems, especially when fluorescent, high-pressure sodium, or metal halide lighting is utilized. It has been observed to reduce relamping costs by approximately 50%. By replacing all lamps within a group at the same time, this process minimizes disruptions to workflow and enables efficient handling of spent lamps containing mercury.

Group relamping also presents opportunities for technology upgrades, such as transitioning to LED lighting. This transition can further enhance energy savings, improve light quality, and extend the overall lifespan of lamps. Moreover, many lamp manufacturers offer warranties specifically tailored for group relamping projects, providing customers with product warranty coverage for up to two years. This warranty coverage offers additional assurance and protection for those undertaking group relamping initiatives.
