What is T8 Fluorescent Bulb

A T8 fluorescent bulb is a type of tubular lighting fixture commonly used in various industries and buildings. The “T” in T8 stands for “tubular,” indicating its shape, while the number “8” represents its diameter, which is 8/8 inch or 1 inch. T8 bulbs are available as either linear fluorescent or LED tubes.

T8 fluorescent bulbs are known for their energy efficiency and longevity. They are often preferred over older T12 bulbs due to their improved performance. T8 bulbs utilize low-pressure mercury-vapor gas and a phosphor coating to produce visible light. When electricity is applied, an electric arc is created, which energizes the mercury vapor and generates ultraviolet (UV) frequencies. These frequencies then stimulate the phosphor coating, resulting in the emission of visible light.

In recent years, T8 LED tube bulbs have gained popularity due to their energy-saving properties and eco-friendly nature. LED technology allows for even greater energy efficiency and longer lifespan compared to traditional fluorescent bulbs. LED T8 bulbs can be installed as direct replacements for fluorescent T8 bulbs, offering a more sustainable and cost-effective lighting solution.
