What is Tube Lighting

Tube lighting, also known as fluorescent tube lighting, refers to a type of lighting that utilizes long, linear lamps commonly found in traditional fluorescent fixtures. These lamps are designed to provide illumination in various settings, including residential, commercial, and industrial spaces. The term “tube lighting” specifically refers to the use of tubular-shaped lamps as the primary light source.

Tube lighting has evolved to include LED tube lights as a more energy-efficient and durable alternative to traditional fluorescent tube lights. LED tube lights, also known as LED linear lamps, utilize light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as the light source. They offer several advantages over fluorescent lamps, including longer lifespan, lower energy consumption, and better light quality.

LED tube lights come in different types based on their diameter, such as T8, T12, and T5HO. The number after the letter “T” in these designations indicates the diameter of the tube in eighths of an inch. For example, a T8 lamp has a diameter of 8 eighths of an inch, which is equivalent to 1 inch. Additionally, LED tube lights are available in various lengths, ranging from 1 foot to 8 feet, allowing for customization based on the requirements of the lighting application.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Are the Dangers of a Broken Fluorescent Tube

CFLs and other light bulbs mentioned above have a small amount of mercury enclosed in the glass tubing. If a bulb breaks in your home, there is a possibility that a portion of this mercury could be released as mercury vapor.

Can I Replace My Fluorescent Tubes With LED

Yes, it is possible to replace fluorescent tubes with LED tubes or LED-integrated fixtures. If you only need to replace the bulbs, you have the option of using plug-and-play, direct-wire, or hybrid LED tubes. Among these options, plug-and-play tubes are the most convenient to install since they do not require any rewiring of the fixture.
