It is designed as a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional incandescent bulbs. CFLs are known for their compact size, energy efficiency, and long lifespan. CFLs operate by passing an electric current through a tube that contains a small amount of mercury vapor and a phosphor coating. When the current flows through the tube, it excites the mercury vapor, causing it to emit ultraviolet (UV) light.
