Det beskriver, hvordan lyset spredes over et bestemt omr\u00e5de eller rum, og bestemmer retningen, intensiteten og d\u00e6kningen af lyset. Lysets fordelingsm\u00f8nster er en vigtig overvejelse inden for lysdesign, da det direkte p\u00e5virker belysningssystemets effektivitet og ydeevne. Ved at forst\u00e5 og v\u00e6lge den rette lysfordeling kan designere sikre, at det \u00f8nskede belysningsniveau opn\u00e5s i en given anvendelse eller et givet milj\u00f8.
